Tomorrow, November 16, Kleb Woods will have the weekly bird walk from
8:30-11:30 AM. The cooler temperatures have made the mornings more pleasant,
and each walk brings more winter species. This is looking like a really good
year for Golden-crowned Kinglets. They are heard daily near the nature center
as well as on several trails throughout the park.
In the afternoon, from 3-4 PM, join Kleb Woods Historian, Jim Wilson, for the
next topic in the Conservation Pioneers series: Theodore Roosevelt, the
"Wilderness Warrior." While this program is not specifically about birds, you
will learn a few unique tidbits. Did you know Roosevelt kept a White House lawn
bird list? That list had some puzzling species like Cedar Bird, Thistle Bird
and Yellow Summerbird. Come and discover how this sickly child from New York
became a towering leader in environmental protection as we focus on the
conservation legacy of this multi-faceted man.
The Conservation Pioneers programs are designed for adults and more mature
students. There will be a repeat presentation the following Saturday, November
19, from 10 - 11 a.m. for those unable to attend Wednesday's program.
