Today on my lunch break I visited the newly drained Campion Trails off of
Riverside near Royal Ln. When returning back next to the polo grounds I saw
a bird flying around in a large cottonwood. At first I thought it might be
a bluebird since another was hanging around in the area. But, this bird was
very light colored with small streaking on the side, and a little coloring
toward the flanks to vent area. Then it did the flycatcher type feeding
routine. A first year Vermilion. It turned around and I saw the black tail
and the color at the vent seemed more yellowish. The head seemed block
shaped as well. Our only experience I could recall with this version of
this bird was out in the Trans Pecos area. Any ways if you want to find the
bird enter the trail from behind the police department off of Riverside
just south of Royal Ln. When you cross the water go left (north) and stay
left (west) of the polo field. You'll see large cottonwoods with a large
pile of brush/wood near the base.
