Texbirders, Shelia Hargis and I took our Sunday field trip group of our Introduction to Birds and Birding class to Hornsby Bend today. We had two highlights to our day. The first was seeing 13 Crested Caracaras working the fields near the CER. I don't recall ever seeing so many in one place before and we were thrilled for our students to get such good looks at them. The second highlight was a repeat from our Saturday class - the male Vermilion Flycatcher was well seen by all on pond 2 near the greenhouse. He put on quite a show, flying from a favorite perch out over the water and back repeatedly. Our list from the morning follows.
