Greetings All:
I spent six hours in Hockley County yesterday - hitting all the wetspots
(Smyer Playa, Bison Road Playa, Sundown Water Treatment Ponds).
Highlights were: 1 Snow Goose at the Sundown WTP, 2 male Blue-winged Teals
at the Bison Road Playa, 2 male Blue-winged Teals at the Sundown WTP, 2
male Cinnamon Teals at the Bison Road Playa, 3 female and 3 male Cinnamon
Teals at the Sundown WTP, 1 female Canvasback at the Bison Road Playa, 4
Redheads at the Bison Road Playa, 1 Ring-necked Pheasant at the Smyer
Playa, 1 Greater Yellowlegs at the Bison Road Playa, 2 Wilson's Snipes at
the Smyer Playa, 2 Wilson's Snipes at the Sundown WTP, 1 Ring-billed Gull
at the Bison Road Playa (usually not that much of a shocker - but the
species has been close to absent from the county this winter), 2 Merlins
along Alamo Road, 1 female Mountain Bluebird along Ellis Road, 1
Green-tailed Towhee along Alamo Road, and 2 Pine Siskins a t Sundown City
Park.
The other highlight: 2 probably Juvenal's Duskywings at Sundown City Park -
a bit out of range and a bit early for this butterfly species - and my
first Black Swallowtail of the season - another very early sighting for our
region.
