[texbirds] Highlights from west of Lubbock on Labor Day

Greetings All:
I spent a big chunk of Labor Day exploring Bailey, Cochran, and Hockley
Counties.  Shorebirding has definitely improved in the region with our
western counties featuring playas with enough water to attract birds and
enough dry down to let them forage.

I had no Lubbock or Hockley County highlights on the way out in the morning.

Lamb County highlights all came during a stop to look at 4 Black Terns over
Bull Lake - this stop also kicked out 1 Western Wood Pewee and 1 male
Western Tanager.

Bailey County highlights all came from Muleshoe NWR and included: 1
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER/12 Snowy Plovers/15 Least Sandpipers/21 Baird's
Sandpipers/ 7 Semipalmated Sandpipers/12 Western Sandpipers/85 peeps/183

Yellow-headed Blackbirds at White Lakes; 8 Scaled Quails/1 Western Wood

Gray Catbird/1 Yellow Warbler/2 Yellow-rumped Warblers/3 Wilson's
Warblers/1 immature male and 1 adult male Lazuli Buntings in the
Headquarters/Campground area; 2 White-faced Ibises/1 Northern Harrier/2
adult GOLDEN EAGLES/4 Snowy Plovers/25 Black-necked Stilts/10 American

Cochran County highlights as morning shifted to afternoon: 5 Northern
Rough-winged Swallows north of Morton; 1 Spotted Sandpiper/2 Western
Sandpipers/1 Black Tern/2 Northern Rough-winged Swallows/1 Northern
Waterthrush/1 immature male and 1 adult male Lazuli Bunting/1 adult male
Indigo Bunting/1 adult male Painted Bunting at Morton City Park; 2 Cinnamon
Teals/18 White-faced Ibises/12 Black-necked Stilts/4 American Avocets/1
Solitary Sandpiper/8 Greater Yellowlegs/12 Lesser Yellowlegs/7 Stilt
Sandpipers/4 Least Sandpipers/4 Baird's Sandpipers/3 Semipalmated
Sandpipers/14 Western Sandpipers/20 peeps/65 Wilson's Phalaropes/1 Black

Stilts/26 American Avocets/1 Spotted Sandpiper/1 Greater Yellowlegs/4
Lesser Yellowlegs/17 Long-billed Curlews/1 Semipalmated Sandpiper/3 Western
Sandpipers/2 Long-billed Dowitchers/53 Wilson's Phalaropes/1 Say's Phoebe/1
Nashville Warbler/1 female Common Yellowthroat/4 Yellow-headed Blackbirds/2
adult male Bronzed Cowbirds at the Smyer Playa.

Still waiting for a good warbler day but it was a lot of fun.
