Hi, all!
Long story short, due to circumstances beyond our control and the continuing
presence of the Greater Scaup on Sugarhouse Pond, the Birder Patrol made a
last minute change of plans and went rarity chasing (and unfortunately I
forgot that we had encouraged those who lived closer to Chachalaca Bend to
meet us there, so we had to do some scrambling to meet up :( )! Thankfully
we found the scaup (but not the Eared Grebe), and had plenty of both
whistling ducks, plus Blue-winged Teal, Ruddies, and coots on the water,
along with lots of stilts along the sides. After that we headed to Hargill
Playa, but not before stopping for a mob of several hundred Fulvous
Whistling Ducks on the "Tri-county Pond" at the intersection of FMs 1425 and
2629! The playa had a Snowy Plover and a few gulls and terns for the day,
but traffic on that little dirt road was surprisingly heavy, so we headed
over to the 1015 Pond, which had several big waders, Dickcissels all over,
and fighting Scissor-tailed Flycatchers! On the way home we stopped for
another mob of Fulvous Whistling Ducks in a field along FM 1015, plus over
30 White-faced Ibis! A few pics can be seen on my Facebook page:
