This morning J.D. Cortez and I checked out the ibises at Pintail Lake at Santa Ana NWR hoping to find the reported Glossy Ibis. With the ibises feeding in tall grass and rarely raising their heads it was hard to make the difficult ID. For comparison here is a "for sure" White faced Ibis. http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n610/antshrike/Birds/White-facedIbisaSantaAna1-25-13182_resize.jpg Then there's this guy. He's got the gray face with a light gray border on the bare skin, but his eye seems a bit red. http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n610/antshrike/Birds/IbisaSantaAna1-25-13198.jpg http://i1142.photobucket.com/albums/n610/antshrike/Birds/IbisSantaAna1-25-13216_resize.jpg What say ye? BTW the four female plumaged Hooded Grebes continue on Willow Lake and a female Bufflehead was on Pintail Lake.
