Hi, all!
Pat Heirs called me last night to see if I wanted to go try for the Glossy
Ibis found at Estero Llano Grande, so over we went, and the light was
perfect! In contrast to Dan Jones' documentation of a knock-down drag out
between it and a White-faced Ibis, they seemed to not only be getting along
like best buds, but "displaying" to each other in a strange way! (if it was
indeed hanging around with the same bird.) We also noticed that the Glossy
was smaller than the White-faced, and were wondering if there was a size
difference in the sexes.
Other delightful birds there included several Roseate Spoonbills and White
Ibis, a Black-necked Stilt family (Mom and Dad were constantly yipping and
buzzing the ibises in order to protect their babies), some nice-looking
Stilt and White-rumped Sandpipers, a Great Egret in high breeding colors,
and a Caracara that broke up the party! Some pictures are on my Facebook
page:
