Another great day at Bahia Grande despite the weather - again. Recent rain kept us on the main road today. We added some new species for this location. The Whistling Duck were on Hwy 100 not far from Laguna Vista. Nilgai, White-tailed Deer, and Jack Rabbit were the mammals for today. Two of the White-tailed Hawk were juvenile/2nd year birds causing all of us to scratch our heads and say "Hmmmm" for a few minutes. Tours end March 31 so call for information and reservations. 956-748-3607x119 Laguna Atascosa NWR (LTC 024), Cameron, US-TX Mar 10, 2014 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Protocol: eBird Trail Tracker Comments: Bahia Grande Unit 32 species Black-bellied Whistling-Duck 2 Northern Bobwhite 12 Double-crested Cormorant 7 American White Pelican 37 Great Blue Heron 7 Great Egret 12 Reddish Egret 6 Northern Harrier 6 Harris's Hawk 3 White-tailed Hawk 4 Killdeer 3 Greater Yellowlegs 2 Long-billed Curlew 4 Ring-billed Gull 3 Crested Caracara 4 American Kestrel 1 Loggerhead Shrike 1 White-eyed Vireo 2 Horned Lark 29 Verdin 1 Bewick's Wren 2 Curve-billed Thrasher 4 Northern Mockingbird 12 Sprague's Pipit 3 Black-and-white Warbler 1 Cassin's Sparrow 5 Savannah Sparrow 29 Lincoln's Sparrow 1 Northern Cardinal 2 Pyrrhuloxia 1 Red-winged Blackbird 35 Eastern Meadowlark 40 -- Donna and Alvin Kelly Volunteer Birding Tour Leaders Home is where you park it!
