It is always easy to know where to start with bird walk highlights when you
have the trifecta of Kingfishers! The female Ringed, a male Belted and a
female Green Kingfisher all showed up at the resaca known as Pintail 2
today. Yay for kingfishers! The Gray Hawk was calling again near the
Visitor Center. That's the third day in a row it has been present so good
to know it is there, even if our extended search for it didn't result in a
sighting. We were compensated for its invisibility by a Verdin that first
called, then perched up high and unusually still, allowing for extended
scope looks and even digiscoping.
Please note that the guided walk schedule will be changing during the
latter part of March. For the next week, walks will continue to be every
day but Sunday at 8:30 am. There will *not *be a walk on Thursday, March
15. For the remainder of March, walks will be Thursday through Sunday,
still at 8:30 am. Meet at the Visitor Center.
Hawk Watch is March 14-April 14, 8am-1pm on the levee. Spotters, counters
and visitors are welcome and appreciated!
