With great sadness, I'm forwarding this email from Judith Reader on behalf of
the Audubon Outdoor Club of Corpus Christi.
Leah Pummill was a most stalwart defender of the natural world and of the birds
in it. President of the AOC for nearly two decades, Leah worked tirelessly to
preserve habitat in the Texas Coastal Bend and she led the way in the creation
and development of many essential birding areas here.
Under her leadership, the AOC worked with the city of Corpus Christi to improve
access to and safety within Blucher Park in downtown Corpus Christi. She was
instrumental in development of the Packery Channel Oak Motte - in fact the pond
there is named in her honor - and she hounded the city's water department for
the continued maintenance of Polliwog Ponds.
Leah was a past recipient of the Conservation & Stewardship Award from the
Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Foundation in Corpus Christi, though I dare say
that the amount of love and respect of her fellow club members and the birding
community shines just as brightly.
We will sorely miss this funny, warm, intelligent human being.
