The Breeding Bird Survey is administered by 3 countries and they jointly
decided to cancel last years bird surveys.
They will be conducted this year. There are only a few vacancies at this time
in Texas. You can check on availability of vacant routes at.

If you are not planning to continue running your route, let me know in order
that I can recruit somebody else.

Subject: BBS is back for 2021!
Dear Brent,
We are pleased to announce that a decision has been made by the leadership of
the BBS, USGS, Environment and Climate Change Canada, and Mexican National
Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity to resume BBS field work
in the 2021 season!
Safety has always been a top priority for the BBS program and remains so. Much
of this upcoming season will operate as in years past but there will be
additional guidelines for observers to follow that will ensure that the BBS is
conducted in a way that protects personal and public safety. For most
observers, these additional measures will not be onerous but there will be
restrictions on social gathering and the crossing of international borders, for
example, that could result in some routes not being sampled. This is an
acceptable tradeoff given the circumstances. We will provide a list of safety
measures to coordinators and participants via email soon.
With this exciting news, please resume your normal participant recruitment
efforts and let’s try to make the best showing we can by filling as many routes
as possible! In the national office, we’re raring to go and will be mailing
participant packets starting in mid-April.
Thank you again for your continued patience, for weathering the disappointment
of the previous year, and for managing the continued uncertainty of modern
daily life. This upcoming season is something we can look forward to together
and, though we’ll be doing our field work independently, it's a continental
success we can achieve collectively!
Sincerely,
Dave Ziolkowski
