A wild (?) guess would be Pipevine Swallowtails. I got there at 11:30 AM, and did not find the Glaucous Gull, but I did see about 300 Black Skimmers, 3 Am. Oystercatchers, one Solitary Sandpiper, 2 Sanderlings, and 4 Least Sandpipers. These were seen near the end of the dike just before a wooden breakwater structure. About mile marker No. 3, I found a large flock of mostly Royal Terns, many in pairs, performing bonding activities, including billing and coordinated head movements. Also present were Common terns, Forster's terns, a couple of Caspian Terns, and at least 2 Sandwich Terns. Mixed in with the terns were several L. Gulls, and a couple of immature Herring Gulls. And many Brown Pelicans feeding. At the end of the dike is a patch of grass with what appear to be evening primroses in bloom. While looking for more birds, I noticed several, large, dark butterflies coming in off the water and straight to the blooms. The wind being what it was, I could not get them in good focus before they were blown away over the water again. I haven't a clue as to what species they were.
