[texbirds] Flickers

Earlier today my wife and I, with 2 grandsons, visited Johnson Branch State
Park (on the north side of Lake Ray Roberts). There was an astonishing
abundance of flickers, including some red shafted. I have only seen yellow
shafted in this area.
Are the red shafted unusual this far east, or have I just missed noticing them
in the past?
