Subject: [texbirds] Re: DMARC-noreply and comparability with TEXBIRDS
In addition to being on Texbirds I am on several lists on the west coast. Some
of those list servs will receive bounce backs from my comcast address. After a
while I get a note from that list warning me that I am being unsubscribed due
to the comcast bounces. When that happens I subscribe again with my gmail
address. I then set my gmail account to forward all mail to my comcast
address. So far those list servs aren't getting bounces from my gmail address,
or at least not enough for them to unsubscribe me. And the gmail forwarding
function works quickly, so there is no delay in getting mail from those lists.
Note, if I wish to reply to posts from those lists, I have to remember to do so
through my gmail account.
For those people whose posts come through with a dmarc address and therefore
can't receive replies off-list, I recommend that they include their email
address in their signature line. That way people can reply to them directly.
That is IF they wish to receive off-list replies, perhaps some don't. :-)

Subject: [texbirds] DMARC-noreply and comparability with TEXBIRDS
For about a year now you have seen email form certain senders show up as being
from "dmarc-norepy@xxxxxxxxxxxxx" This happens because about a year ago yahoo
implemented an anti-spam protocol known by the acronym DMARC. The way they set
it up is they implement an instruction on their servers that says that email
providers should reject all email that doesn't originate from their servers if
it says the email is from their server.
This is incompatible with email lists like TEXBIRDS because naturally when
TEXBIRDS send out a message from one of these providers it is no longer from
the original server but from FREELISTS server, so most providers will not allow
the message to be delivered and will reject it as spam.
The work around for this was that FREELISTS changes the email address that the
message is from to dmarc-noreply@xxxxxxxxxxxxx. This usually work fine because
the reply-to address is still the original senders email address. I say usually
because there is one notable exception, Yahoo does not include a reply-to
address so there is none. I'm not sure of you can specify a reply-to address in
the Yahoo mail set up but it would be worth trying. It may also help to switch
to Yahoo's basic email and not use the new Yahoo mail for email to email lists
like TEXBIRDS.
Yahoo does provide email service for a number of different providers, SBCGlobal
comes to mind as one, so the same problems likely happen with these providers.
If your account is on moderation because its a new subscription or you choose
to read TEXBIRDS from an archive and aren't subscribed this may prove to be a
problem if you decide to post. Lately I've noted that several messages a week I
can't approve because they are not using plain text and are using formatted
email. The formatted portion of the message comes through as an attachment to
the email and FREELISTS will reject it because of the attachment. PLEASE ALWAYS
TRY TO SEND EMAIL TO TEXBIRDS AS PLAIN TEXT.
I still suggest the best way to get your mail from the archive and still post
is to subscribe and either set your account to vacation or ask be to set it to
vacation. Then I can take your subscription off moderation and messages won't
need to be approved and you won't receive email directly from TEXBIRDS.
