Hello all,
Late this evening, after finishing up some avian surveys in the area, I
discovered a Couch's Kingbird loosely associating with some Scissor-tailed
Flycatchers on CR 105 just south of US 380. From a good distance I noticed
a yellow-bellied kingbird on the utility wire and was pretty content with
finding my first Western of the week, given that they've all cleared out.
However, I was wrong in my knee-jerk assumption. I moved closer, it flew to
another wire that was horribly backlit against the sun but I could tell
this beast wasn't just another Western. After some playback effort, I was
able to elicit some diagnostic Couch's vocalizations and obtained a poor
recording via video. This location is just inside Garza County. The
coordinates of the checklist location is the exact spot.

Good birding.
