All things considered the weather and birding along the central and upper
coast panned out about as expected for the past few days with rather good
birding Mon-Wed AM prior to the return of SE winds Wed during the day.
Here's the look at this weekend and the first half of next week.
Coastal/Gulf Weather through Wednesday:
Fresh to strong SE winds are noted across the Gulf this morning. There may
be a few thunderstorms along the upper coast later today and again Friday.
Persistent but less enthusiastic southerly winds are then expected for the
western Gulf tonight through Friday night. A fairly strong cold front, for
this time of year, will push off the coast early Saturday with fresh to
strong north to northeast winds across the Gulf through Saturday night.
Winds will then turn East and then Southeast Sunday into Sunday night.
Moderate to fresh south to southeast winds can then be expected across the
Gulf through the middle of next week. Another cold front is then on the
horizon for April 3rd or 4th. I should add that all in all the weather
looks very pleasant for SE TX during the next several days with highs
generally in the 70's and lows running in the 50's to low 60's most days.

Coastal "Bird Forecast":
From a birding stand point this forecast offers a bit better news for the
weekend birders out there as compared to this past week. Given the time of
year there will be a decent assortment of migrants lingering along the
coast today and tomorrow but numbers will probably be average or a bit
below with the SE winds. The exception might be if any thunderstorms are
able to knock down a few birds. Saturday (especially PM) and Sunday should
offer up an increase of migrants and diversity at the coastal sites in the
wake of the cold front. With the SE winds returning for next week look for
steadily increasing diversity due to the time of year but probably no
overly impressive numbers Monday through Wednesday. Better chances for more
migrants late week if that next cold front can make it into the region as
currently expected.
