Texbirders, The Christmas Bird Count season begins tomorrow, December 14th. If you have not yet signed up to participate in one or more CBCs it is not too late. Visit the Houston Audubon CBC<http://www.houstonaudubon.org/default.aspx/MenuItemID/995/MenuGroup/CBC.htm>tracking page, find a date that works for you, and sign up! Especially you birding veterans - having experienced birders on a CBC can make the difference in casually covering an area or really finding what birds are there. The recent discussion about the TBRC has brought up how thankless that job can be. I would compare that to being the compiler of a Christmas Bird Count. This year, if you are participating on a count, take a minute to thank the compilers. They work on the CBC before, during, and after the count, finding birders to participate, coordinating transportation, finding a suitable restaurant for the countdown (often the most difficult part!), and compiling the results afterwards. And send a note of thanks to our state coordinator, Brent Ortego. He does possibly the biggest and most thankless job in the entire state for birders and for the birds. So find a count, sign up, count your birds, and add your voice to the thousands of others around the world participating in this important project.
