I was just reminded by the latest of John Arvin's helpful summaries of
NEXRAD data that yesterday I was on the boardwalk at the Convention Center
at South Padre with some visiting Dutch birders when we observed hundreds
of migrants (Baltimore & Orchard Orioles, Painted & Indigo Buntings,
Western Kingbirds, warblers) flying north low over the mangroves during a
period of some 20 minutes in mid-afternoon. As far as we could see, almost
all by-passed the trees at the Convention Center.
