*** At day break this morning there was nothing moving overhead so knew it was gonna be a slow day around here...I could think of nothing to do as I have pretty much done all the local stuff possible. Figured I needed to bust out before the busy holiday weekend. I had a couple of choices some distance off, Bastrop-Buescher SP, S. E. Bastrop Co. even thought about the long haul to Granger Lk. but opted for N. Caldwell Co. in hopes of finding some water. Most of the small ponds I know are dried up but some of the bigger bodies still have water but no shorebird habitat as the weeds follow in as water recedes. I kind of regret not going to Salt Lake down near Luling but it would have required another 15-17 mile drive from where I was. The sandy uplands near Rosanky and McMahon were pretty dead except for roadrunners and ground-doves...Very little in the way of passerine migrants noted anywhere, except swallows, but still there were some nice birds near or where there was water. As usual I quit around 11A. Black-bellied Whistling Ducks 16 W. Turkeys 11 Wood Storks 2 Yellow-crowned Night-Heron 2 White Ibis 2 (Imm.) Ground Doves 8 Miss. Kites 7 Roadrunners 11 Golden-fronted Wood 2 Pileated Woodpecker 4 E. Phoebe 1 E. Kingbirds 4 Yellow warbler 2 Lark Sparrows 6 Y. H. Blackbirds 5 Orchard and Baltimore Orioles ~10 Hope folks find some nice birds over the next three days. ********************************************************************** Brush Freeman 503-551-5150 Cell http://texasnaturenotes.blogspot.com/ Finca Alacranes., Utley,Texas Edit your Freelists account settings for TEXBIRDS at //www.freelists.org/list/texbirds Reposting of traffic from TEXBIRDS is prohibited without seeking permission from the List Owner
