Hello,
Today (03/25), I counted 1840 migrating Broad-winged Hawks from our yard in NW
Corpus Christi. That includes 1 exquisite dark morph (chocolate drop)
Broad-winged Hawk. Also counted : 850 Anhingas, 3 Swainson's Hawks, and 180
Turkey Vultures.
Earlier in the day at Polywog Ponds, I had 60 Broad-winged Hawks, and some
Warblers: Black-throated Green, Black-and-White, Nashville, and Orange-crowned.
Also approximately 200,000 mosquitoes.
Butterflies were good as well at Polywog: White-striped Longtail, Monarch, and
Southern Skipperling amongst the highlights.
Yesterday (03/24), I ran into Phyllis Hibdon, Mike Egar, and Friends at Hazel
Bazemore County Park. We had White-tailed Kite and White-tailed Hawk at the
Park, and several Upland Sandpipers at the Robstown sod farm(across 624 from
Hazel).
A sincere thanks to our Friend, Peter Collins, who runs the Hawkwatch in Tubac,
Arizona. Libby and I spent 8 glorious days there recently, observing Common
Black-Hawks(simply amazing Birds), Zone-tailed Hawks(equally awesome), Gray
Hawks(resplendent), Golden Eagles(name says it all), and much, much
more...Cannot thank you enough, Peter and fellow Arizonians...You'all are
excellent Hawkwatchers and Friends...
