Evening all, Rachel and I are back in Houston for a few days and spent the morning birding Brazos Bend SP with Dennis Shepler. It was a nice morning to be out with plenty of activity. The most noteworthy sightings were all at or near 40 Acre Lake and included a Least Grebe, a group of more than 70 Tree Swallows (and one northern rough-winged), and two cooperative American Bitterns. One of the Bitterns actually offered up quite the sight by eating a blackbird. Plenty of smaller birds around as well with a few wilson's warblers, gnatcatchers, blue headed and white eyed vireos, and many of the usual suspects.
