Followed up on Fred Collins's recent post see texbirds archive 5/11) All
species mentioned were present. Had about five Bobolinks. Two showed
themselves well for photos by all present.
The flooded fields along Stalknecht Rd. were excellent. Also, had lots of
Dunlin and White-rumped Sandpipers along Woods Rd. (just n. of IH 10).
The sandpipers, et. al. are in excellent plumage. Great studies of the
birds today. All locations can be googled. The pulse of migration
continues.

Yesterday afternoon and again this morning I found Bobolinks on Buller
Road in Waller County. They were on the west side of the road between
Zadelsky and Whites Chapel Roads. They like the tall rank grass near the
fence and on Whites Chapel Road they like the coreopsis flowers. Yesterday
in about 45 minutes, I has 4 adult males and this morning I had one group
of at least 7 males. They do not stay up long on exposed perches and I was
unable to photograph them but know many a birder that would have managed
easily. I have no idea how long they will stay around but the area is one
they obviously like.
On the muddy wet field on Zadelsky Road is where the shorebirds are most
easily found. There were perhaps a dozen Hudsonian Godwits this morning,
more than 30 White-rumpes (likely a hundred or more)and a few Wilson's
Phalaropes. Yesterday there were more than 50 phalaropes. Harvey Laas also
found a Bobolink this morning before I arrived and also a flock of about 15
Stilt Sandpipers I could not find. The rice fields are currently being
flooded so this situation is ephemeral. Good luck and be patient and work
the road repeatedly to find the Bobolinks.
