At Frontera Audubon in Weslaco this morning (10 Feb) John Schenck and I
watched the male Blue Bunting at 8:55 AM and saw it again at 11:45. Both
times it was accompanied by the female Summer Tanager. The location was the
Inner Thicket on the side of Mistflower Circle feeding station as viewed
from the outer northeastern trail.
We missed the Crimson-collared Grosbeak but heard that it was seen earlier
at the Feeding Station near Post E. At that spot we found Ovenbird and
where there is a small drip pool we saw the Tropical Parula. Earlier we had
seen the mixed flock feeding in the treetops at another location but it was
without the Tropical Parula, though it did contain Blue-headed Vireo,
Yellow-throated Warbler, Wilson Warbler and more common species.
A brightly colored Hermit Thrush was in Tepeguaje Grove where the Wood
Thrush had been seen previous days. Red-crowned Parrots flew overhead and a
flock of Lesser Goldfinch was in the Old Orchard. A Gray Hawk can be heard
and seen in that area.
