Hi, all!
None of my pictures really came out, so no Facebook today, but we traveled
down Weaver Road and the Progresso Sod Farms in search of "grasspipers" -
along Weaver we had lots of Horned Larks close, plus a couple of flyover
Upland Sandpipers, and ONE distant American Golden Plover, along with a pair
of White-tailed Kites and a male Harrier sitting in the field. Had a nice
family of Harris' Hawks heading over to Cannon Road to search for the
reported Aplomado Falcon; no luck there, but cruising the dike along Adams
Garden Reservoir (which was relatively birdless) we had Soras, Marsh Wrens,
and Yellowthroats in the reeds. Picked up the regular woodland birds
heading down Cannon (one car had a Northern Parula and a couple of
Scissor-tailed Flycatchers), but a pair of Common Ground Doves was
especially nice! Over at the Progresso Farm we finally found a field on the
east side of the road with about 12 Golden Plovers and a Long-billed Curlew!
Further down just short of the levee we had a Peregrine Falcon give us a
show, along with about seven White Pelicans flying around! Wrapped up with
57 species for the morning (folks in the other cars may have seen things I
missed.).
