Hi Texbirders, Spring migration is in full swing at Bentsen-RGV State Park. Already here for a while are Elf Owl, Couch's Kingbird & Swallows. There are birds just arriving such as Mississippi Kite, Brown-crested Flycatcher, Northern Parula & Indigo Bunting. This upcoming week, we expect more migrants such as Tanagers and Orioles as well as Yellow-billed Cuckoo and Groove-billed Ani. Join our Hawk Watchers at the Hawk Tower every day through April. Good numbers of Broad-winged Hawks being reported as well as lots of wading birds at the tower Resaca. Check the gardens around the HQ for Olive Sparrow, Clay-colored Thrush, Hooded Oriole & Long-billed Thrasher. The feeding stations at the Nature Center will continue to be maintained through April, but are attracting less individual birds as nesting season begins. Elf Owls calling after dark in the vicinity of Feeders #1 & #8. Northern-Beardless Tyrannulets heard around feeder station #9 (Kiskadee Blind). Stay tuned & good birding. 95 Species 4-7-13 Black-bellied Whistling-Duck Mottled Duck Blue-winged Teal Northern Shoveler Green-winged Teal Redhead Plain Chachalaca Neotropic Cormorant Anhinga Great Blue Heron Great Egret Snowy Egret Little Blue Heron Tricolored Heron Black-crowned Night-Heron White-faced Ibis Black Vulture Turkey Vulture Osprey Mississippi Kite Northern Harrier Sharp-shinned Hawk Cooper's Hawk Accipiter sp.
