Hi, if you have not made all your April plans, consider a visit to the
Balcones Canyonlands National Wildlife Refuge just outside of Austin.
Proceeds from the various birding field trips support the Friends group
which was instrumental in the recent acquisition of Peaceful Springs, a 520
acre parcel that helps to connect three refuge tracts to provide
unfragmented habitat for both the Golden-cheeked Warbler and Black-capped
Vireo.
Several of the tours will get you on refuge property not typically open to
the public.

I realize most Texbirders have already seen Golden-cheeks and Black-capped
Vireos, so please share this info with your newer birding friends.
For interest, I ran into a City of Austin biologist on a city-owned
Balcones Canyonlands Preserve tract last week who reported that one female
Golden-cheeked had already laid what looked to be a full clutch of eggs.
Another had just finished building her nest. It seems early.
