Texbirds,

The main attraction at Santa Ana, the first U.S. and Texas record BAT
FALCON, continues near the Hawk Tower and Jaguarundi Trail from what I can
gather from eBird submissions.

It's also curious to me how many eBird users choose to do a traveling count
from the parking lot to tower and only report the Bat Falcon with no other
species.  If you're going to do an incidental, incomplete checklist why not
a stationary observation from the tower or exact location on the trail
system where the falcon is located?? It seems more logical to me if hiking
distance to the falcon is included in the notes rather than expressed as
birding "effort" when birding wasn't the primary objective. Any expert
statistical-minded folks interested in weighing in on this curious
situation?

Best birding,
Justin Bosler
