Hi Texbirders and Pelagic Fans,
The August 27th Texas Pelagic trip will sail from S Padre Island aboard the
very nice Osprey 1 with the big upper observation deck. This will be an
extended 16 hour trip to the very deep Gulf of Mexico. This give us at least
8 hours over deep pelagic waters, prime area for seabirds, and he chance to
get as far as 75 miles offshore to the Camel's Head. This spot is well known
for tuna fishing which means it also can attract the large flocks of
seabirds that follow the feeding fish. Additionally it is a prime place to
view whales if we get lucky.
Our 16 hour trip last month on July 23rd from Port Aransas was fabulous with
loads of seabird and marine mammal activity. Last year our 14 hour trip on
August 29, 2015 from South Padre Island was the best Texas Pelagic trip ever
from this port. We saw 10 pelagic seabird species including a Great
Shearwater, a record high (for SPI) 240 individual seabirds and a phenomenal
approximate 75 Leach's Storm-Petrels. Not to mention the Whale Shark and
