I am forwarding this letter from someone with experience with a disk golf course. I think Uvalde will be shooting itself in the foot if you let this happen to you. A few years ago, we were meeting about how to utilize and hopefully preserve some of the land still unpaved on campus. There was a large patch of land on the bottom side of the campus where I had been doing some rodent mark:recapture studies for a number of years. Well, along came the Disk Golf proponents (one of whom worked on campus). We argued and tried to get them to realize our campus was not a good place for this to no avail. The disk golf course went in and the amount of wildlife paid the price. Before the disk golf course was even open, the Texas Disk Golf Association was already advertising our course and one weekend when I came there to check my rodent traps, I came across of group of "disk golf athletes". There were a group of four guys sitting on lounge chairs in the parking lot drinking beer (it was 9am) and smoking (both of which are prohibited on our campus) before heading out for their day's golf. Now that I think about it, I might be able to get my Zoology class to generate some real data about the impact the course had on wildlife on our campus. We had run a set of camera traps in that area of campus for a few months prior to construction and had photographed deer, gray foxes, skunks, rabbits, raccoons and ringtails using the area. I'll be if we set up the cameras now we would see a profound difference. Chris Harrison SATX
