Greetings All:
I'm going to give it one more try: while polishing off the historical
data for eBird I'm going to take it easy and try, once more, to have a
good year in the yard, shooting for 40 species of butterfly, 0 species
of amphibian (should be able to achieve that goal:)), 2 species of
reptile, 80 species of bird, and 4 species of mammal - with at least
90% of the critters seen photographed.
Next year, by gosh and by golly, I will do something different:)
April was pretty good: working from home allowed me to take my breaks
in the yard and, for the purposes of this game, that was a good thing.
The one complaint I have is that blossoms and butterflies are not in
sync this year: by the time butterflies had showed up some of my
butterfly favorites (especially the lilacs) were over without having
drawn in a single butterfly.
During April I spotted 19 species of butterfly, 0 species of amphibian,
1 species of reptile, 31 species of bird, and 3 species of mammal,
bringing me up to 20 species of butterfly, 0 species of amphibian, 1
species of reptile, 37 species of bird, and 3 species of mammal - 50%,
100%, 50%, 46.25%, and 75% of my taxonomic goals for the year. Of the
sixty-one species seen thus far this year, I have photographs of
fifty-five (90.16%).
May will depend on rain (we had almost none in April) bringing on some
new blossoms and butterflies and fronts not favorable for migrants
(the best conditions for drop-ins of spring songbirds in my yard). I
haven't seen any mice in the house yet this year: if I don't get a
House Mouse soon I may have to take a photograph of the postal
delivery person to get my fourth mammal.
