Live partial solar eclipse webcast 4 January 2011 The new year 2011 begins with a big celestial event, a partial solar eclipse, and Bareket Observatory in Israel will broadcast it to the world live on January 4. The Moon will encroach 60% into the solar disk during the special live webcast. The webcast takes place from 7.00 to 10.30 UT (GMT) on January 4. An "eclipse timer" on the webcast page will count down the time until first contact – the beginning of the eclipse when the Moon first appears to block the edge of the Sun’s disk – at 7.13 UT. This special live event is free and open to everyone. Just go to the webcast page<http://www.bareket-astro.com/live-astronomical-web-cast/live-solar-eclipse-webcast-jan-04-2011.html>to take part. A special section on science projects using the live solar eclipse feed is also planned. The Astro-Edu network, offering an educational database for teachers, students and the general public, and featuring automatic translations into 60 languages, is also available on the Bareket Observatory web site <http://www.bareket-astro.com/astronet> .
