In my experience with A4LD's which are very similar, most likely the OD band is shot. Best to take it in and have it checked professionally. These trannies are nothing like they used to be. A rebuilt will probably cost 8-900 bucks (not installed) and putting in a used (again in my humble experience) ends up being a repeat process every time. I've given away a couple of nice aerostars cause the cost wasn't justified for the van. What stinks is that these 3.0 and 4.0 liter ford motors seem to run forever.
