I have had some problems with the MK12 mechanism (made in 2003 and 2004)
with tape spillage at eject.  It was the slider plate on the bottom of the
mechanism.  Problems would occur when set was warm and cassette was ejected,
apparently the plastic would warp. It's not hard to change. It does not
sound like mode switch, that ussually caused frontload/eject problems.
