I always inform the customer on these that if this reoccurs
additional parts may need to be replaced. Our policy on return service
calls like this is to charge only for additional repair time and parts
and not an additional service call fee. So far I haven't got any return
calls on these. I always follow up with a call to the customer 90 days
after the repair and so far so good. The oldest one I can recall has
been about a year and a half ago.
Most of the sets that I have seen this occur on had the flicker
issue repaired (3 CRT replacement) about a year previously. In my
estimation this is happening either because of component drift over time
or incorrectly set screen controls. If the screens aren't set in a
completely dark environment they can be left high enough to where they
become visible with minor component drift.

Yeah, it will come back to you or another shop. You either need to
change
the screen focus pack or rejuvenate or change the red tube. I have seen
all
three failures. I have never gotten by by adjusting the screen. same way
on
tabletop Sony's that the picture blanks out. You can get by and cheat
and
adjust the screen, but the set will come back to you or another shop
sooner
or later. I have gone behind many shops that just adjusted the screen.
that
is not a fix in my opinion.
