Quietly, in a four million square foot campus adjacent to the UPS hub at the
Louisville airport, UPS SPS is in the repair business, among other things.
At the Tech Center, technicians, armed with factory training, diagnostic and
test equipment and every part that might be needed, repair digital
projectors, laptops, printers, cell phones, in-vehicle monitoring systems,
and many other things that they wont talk about to honor the manufacturers
privacy. In Europe they installed x-ray machines in hospitals, repair
McDonalds cash registers, and tune Fender guitars.
UPS picks it up, fixes it, and returns it. The technicians work under a time
budget for each job, since they are equipped with every last thing needed to
complete the job.
With a 2.5 billion in annual revenue in 2002, SPS represents only 8% of UPSs
31 billion 2002 revenue.
