If the thumping sound is coming thru the speakers, look and see if 
this set uses an upright regulator on the power supply G board. (There 
is a small black flat square upright pack behind it.) TO-220 case with 
about 7 pins for the 9VDC regoutput.I'm at home so can't be exact. I 
have changed several of those for that.
