[TechAssist] SONY HCD-S300, does not read disk,

hello all.
I haven't seen this particular model before, so i want to make sure there isn't
a simpler expalanation.
The dvd spins and i can hear the focus servo working, etc. However it never
shows an error message, the dvd just stops trying to read. The display goes
blank, but will display other function info.
I dunno, but my guess is the laser...
