After working in systems testing at a fiber optic undersea transmission
company, I wonder how they can use it at all for home audio.
The terrific losses we encountered due to contaminated connectors and
the
difficulty of cleaning them without making them worse was unreal.
The undersea cables have amplifiers using erbium doped fiber, at
intervals
along the way.
