Hi,

I am stumped on this one. According to customer, this unit had loading
troubles almost from the start. It was supposed to have been repaired under
warranty, but still had pretty much the same problems when it came back.
What happens is when a cassette is inserted, it will load most of the way
but will not go to the bottom of the deck. The tape arms only load about
1/3 of the way. After a few seconds, the cassette will unload and eject.
Unit does not shut off and no errors show in display. Tape can be pushed
back in and same will happen. Now, with cover off, I can push slightly on
the top of the cassette as it loads and it will bottem right out and load
normally. I can do this consistently with no problems, but as soon as I try
to let it load on its own, it won't. It's like something is holding it back
from dropping down all the way in the time necessary so it doesn't interfere
with other timing processes. I have inspected the deck and there are no
visible problems. Working it manually, the only resistence I encounter is
from a pressure spring on the right side deck that I believe is used to lock
deck down and give it an eject boost on its way out. Nothing is broken or
out of place. There is no problem with anything being misaligned - on deck
or chassis (that I can tell). Just to be safe, I cleaned the mode switch and
checked capstan belt. There was no change. The only thing I can think of
is that either the deck is still the problem, or the loading motor is, but
it functions normally for everything else. There are no belts other than
capstan. I'm thinking that there must be more out there like this and
someone has discovered the problem and the fix. Can anyone help? Would
someone have the manual in PDF? No Sams# that I could find.

Best Regards,
Don Cohen
