Dominic,
I'm not sure if your model is the same. Look for a hybrid ceramic IC.  It is
mounted towards the rear by the vcr deck.  It has the good 'ol smd
electrolytics that go bad. This looks like the size Sony uses for the
SBX1637 sound board.
