Storm. Dead. Found the usual two transistors shorted: Q801 relay driver
(2SC945) and the "excess current protector" Q523 (2SA564A). Replaced
both, now powers on,channels tune,TV section seems fixed. Insert a tape
and immediately hear a fast whirring sound increasing in speed, then a
flash of snow, and VCR shuts down. Push any VCR related button and
ignores it. No eject. Turn power off then on and push eject at once,
will eject tape. I think it sounds like the drum is run-away speed
spinning.
