Marcello Had an interesting one a few months back which could apply to part of your problem. When the tape ran out, the unit would shut down with alarm coming on. Instead of going into rewind, the tape just tightened up on the head and stopped it, causing the error and setting off the alarm. The strange thing was that the "beginning of tape" sensor worked ok. Replaced the "tape end" sensor did not cure the problem. Turned out to be the center post LED just at threshold of failure. As to loosing the memory.... Old Timers Disease ??!! Good Hunting!
