[TechAssist] JVC VCR model HR-VP656u no functions Display reads AUTO

Hi list, i have seen this proble a couple of time before
and never been able to fix. Unit comes in with tape inside
posts are loaded, unit has power but display reads "AUTO"
power will not come on and does not respont to any button
commands.
Momentarily shorting the test jumper to ground will allow
unit to power up and tape will eject automaticly. in standy
it looks like this unit should operate fine. Insert an tape
and unit loads and loads posts and then shuts off and reads
AUTO again.
Has anyone ever seen this and been able to fix it. I looked
in the tips db and saw nothing.
ANY HELP ON THIS WOULD BE GREAT.
