I did as you suggested & subbed an RCA replacement. It works. Soldered
around driver section & am in process of ordering the original. Thanks much,

It is not a 2SD1557 . 2SD1557 is a TO220 200v vert out transistor.
just try any rugged hot with internal damper (too many examples). If the
FBT is OK
it is going to work, cooler or warmer, even if it has an external damper
Then you look for the correct replacement .
