Believe it or not (as I wipe the egg off my face), that was it!
According to the original bulletin, under child-lock the set would power up,
but won't play a tape. I guess you can't believe everything you read!
Now the thing appears to have a "clunky" capstan motor. Everytime it clunks,
the picture starts to loose sync. I wonder if it's worth the effort?
