Paul, I don't see any way replacing a 1/4 watt resistor with a 1/2 watt, can effect the operation of the ckt. I do it more often then I care to admit. I think the main problem, is will it fit in the small space. If there is a short loading it down,...you will most likely see smoke from the 1/2 watt, just as easy as the 1/4 watt. The ckt. will neither be degraded, or improved. However,...I wouldn't want to go even higher to a 1,2.5, or 10 watt replacement. Space is the problem. Resistance is the same with the higher wattage replacement. The ckt. will just run cooler, with the over-rated part in it.
