i'm getting the same. i get pound symbols on other e-mails therefore i
assume its the freelist service. Although Tim Clarks' message has the pound
symbol working fine.

perhaps we should just say 1k for anything that costs one thousand pounds

My typical costs for installing a new pedestrian crossing is 25-30k for a
two pole site.

this includes at least twin duct in footway and carriageway (usually i
install triple duct in road crossing as it only costs the extra few
pounds/meter for the cost of the duct itself) with pole access chambers and
duct chambers at the controller and other side of the road crossing. flush
kerbs and tactile paving. all signal equipment including tactile cones and
audio's. Anti-skid, and carpet lighting using Zebrasafe lanterns (as
insisted upon by the Street Lighting Manager whether the lighting in the
street complies with the BS or not). Also included is a GSM OMU, as the
cheapest quote i've had in the last 4 years from BT is 1.3k.

not included is any pedestrian guardrail. thats about 100 pounds a meter.
