Every flight of my Nike Smoke (10 flights so far) have used a smoke tracking
canister under chute (tied to kevlar shock cord).
Under a clear sky, they show up very well and last a long time using a 48"
chute.

But, I wonder how much of that stuff you can atomize.
The tracking smoke I used before I once got it to smoke on the way up, but
we need to do this
to at least 10K' AGL to even see anything worth while.
And we'll want to shut it off on descent to prevent fouling up the recovery
gear.
