Gotta appreciate the effort, I guess. I'll check to see if they made it. I'm headed to Alec tomarrow for work and will pass by there. They've got quite the little VW compound in BFE near Leesville. One of these days, I'll remember the camera and take a picture of it...
Here's some more pics:

Hey! I really felt sorry for those kids. He had driven that very poor 59 panel all the way from Alexandria LA, about 500 miles, with it pouring oil out of the back main. They pulled then engine and found that the flywheel had ground about .040 off of the back of the case and the main seal was shot. It only had one spacer for the flywheel and a lot of play. They put in a new mainseal and 2 more spacers hoping it would hold him till he got home. They put the engine back in and it turned a 1/2 turn with the starter and froze up. They pulled it again, took out some spacers, put it back in and got it to crank and run. He planned to drive it all the way home and said he had $50 to get him home. Don't know if he made it or not.
But they worked on the thing for about 4 hours pulling the engine twice on Sunday afternoon.
